oh what a difference a month makes.

these pictures are from one month ago. i'm wearing s h o r t s. i just spent the majority of my week in layers, shearling boots and a scarf. hopefully this cold spell breaks and we get a little more indian summer.
i going to try a post the majority of my back logged outfits tomorrow and have them go up on delay while i'm in nyc. i leave sunday morning and i come back wednesday night. i will have my computer with me but i probably won't have time to post when i'm there.
any must visit suggestions for nyc, good eats, shopping, secret sample sales?

vintage plaid

summer is just heating up so i've had a few more weeks of layered plaid.
this shirt is special though. it's an original wool plaid from the 1960's.
i found it at my favourtie vintage shop in kensignton for 10$, i'm in love.
now i'm off to watch the hangover and lunch with paige before heading to baseball tonight.
only 4 more days until vacation!

utah part 1.

not exactly fashion related but for those interested in my trip to utah here's part one of my recap.
after flying almost 5 hours to las vegas my mom and i hit the i.81 for our 4 hour drive to best friends animal sanctuary, just outside kanab, utah. we drove through desert and canyons listening to xm satellite radio and taking in the scenery. we traveled through nevada, arizona and utah before stopping in st. george for starbucks and groceries. when we hit zion national park it of course started pouring rain. it was kind of scary going through the tunnels and switchbacks through the mountains but soon enough we got to best friends. best friends is in beautiful angel canyon on 33,000 acres. we had to take some pics as soon as we arrived, it was so lovely. the next day after our tour we headed to dogtown to volunteer. that's where we met dixie, our sleepover dog. such a sweetie, we took her out for a long hike and then back to our cabin for some r and r. the next day we spent more time in dogtown walking and feeding the animals before i headed to the horse area to help groom the horses and clean the pastures. it was an absolutely beautiful place, and amazing organization and an unforgettable experience. it was pretty cold at the beginning of the trip so i spent most of the first three days layered up in multiple leggings and hoodie combos. thank god i brought my gloves and toque. i also broke in my new shearling hiking boots and thoroughly destroyed my white chucks in the red canyon dirt.

flannel love

this skirt was a belated altering project. like a lot of things i get thrifting it needed some tweaking before i could wear it. originally, it hit well below the knee and i had plans to crop it and use it as a cozy winter skirt. of course the months passed and i only got around to hemming it in the last few weeks. it's better late then never though, as i think it turned out great. i'm trying to squeeze in some posts between work and a very entertaining baseball win this afternoon. my jays beat detriot to take the series, nothing better then a day at the stadium.

v.v. sale

so every season value village, which is my thrift store of choice, has a 50% off sale. they used to be on tuesdays so i could go early and usually find really good stuff but the last few times they've been on mondays and i had to work. this time i almost didn't go as i thought by 6pm most everything worth while would have been picked over, but since the boy was away and i was bored around the house i tried my luck away. although not as good as past sales, i did pick up a few pieces, see below. i got an orange blazer with great lines that i think will be perfect for a pop of colour this spring. i got a great graphic print blazer that with a few alterations will add great interest to an outfit. jumping on the denim trend, i picked up this jean shirt hopefully not to wear as a canadian tuxedo. this blue sweater is by jagger and super soft. i love the duck pattern and funnel neck on it. lastly i picked up this sheer topper. it doesn't close but it will look cute layered on top of things for a bit of stevie nicks drama.

alternative apparel

i thought it was fitting since my boyfriend is away in nashville to put together a country inspired outfit. not the i don't wear plaid most days but there's a little more thought in this look with the vest and the boots. what you can't see is the amazing wolf print on the back of my vest, we all know how i feel about them, check it out here. speaking about the southern u.s. lets head to atlanta and the homebase of one of my favourite companies alternative apparel. i have to send out many thanks to all the alternative staff because they answered my christmas wishes and sent me an amazing and generous care package, that included the rocky fleece hoodie i desperately desired. i want you to know that i have worn it almost everyday since it has arrived. it has kept me warm all winter and is the best, coziest, coolest hoodie i've every owned. soon it will accompany me on my trip to southern utah and it has been joined by many other alternative pieces, as i snatch up any i can find around town. great company, great people and a great product. much love. check out the alternative pieces that i'm currently loving below.

i love the new heathered burnout collection. i have the blue tee and the fit is perfection.
another burnout fav. the racerback tank. my beloved hoodie in the new darker grey.
note to the ladies, this is unisex so get an x-small, mines a small and it's roomy on me.
i love the cardigans from the orange label. it's alternative's premium women's line.

ashes and wine

i wore this to check out the wrestler the other night, great movie by the way. i wear variations of this outfit all the time, tee+flannel+skinny jeans+boots, i just gravitate to it. a couple other things i am drawn to, dark saturated coloured nails like this purple or the forest green i'm currently wearing, dark green in general (it's my fav. colour) and customized dog tags. i usually go for song lyrics and i just made a bunch with lyrics from kings of leon and this tag featuring a snip from the song ashes and wine, by a fine frenzy. i love this song... adore it. the line is, "i'm ill with the thought of your kiss, coffee laced, intoxicated on her lips".

he's the one who likes all our pretty songs

my first outfit post of the new year. wearing some of my go to pieces. first, every fashion blogger's and hipster's favourite top, the aa jersey raglan. then my over the knee zipper back boots and much loved vintage cashmere grandpa cardigan. lastly, what could be a blog debut, my lamb bag from gwen's le sportsac collaboration. i have a couple of bags from the pairing but this one is my loveliest. i always pull it out in the winter because it's water and snow proof, perfect. i hope you all had a wonderful first day of the year. i spent most of mine watching the dogtown marathon on the national geographic channel. it's a show about the dogs rescued by best friends animal sanctuary in utah. you all should check out the show and the site if you love animals. the program touched me so much that i'm definitely going to visit and volunteer at best friends when i go on my vegas/san fran roadtrip. lastly, a big congrats to my friends chris and sonia who got engaged last night the big new years bash, it was so sweet!
