the swivel in her hips and the look she gives

last week i met up with my mom and we spent the afternoon browsing the shops and having lunch at the drake cafe, yum. although i didn't buy much, i did pick up a bunch of different charms at the local bead shop. they have tons of different sections and i basically bought everything in the native and northern animal boxes. i also picked up ball chain to make necklaces for them to hang on. this is the first of my creations, a little gold arrowhead. i love a long ball chain and i've worn this puppy so much since then. the outfit was inspired by ash olsen and her leather minis. i wanted to try and take mine, which i never wear, and make it work for day. basically, add tights and loose layers and there you go. i really like this look and i may have to revisit it before summer sets in because leather and humidity are not a good combo. i wanted to take the time to say thanks to all my new commenters, i really appreciate all your lovely words. i don't always have time to comment back but i do check out all your blogs and try and follow them on bloglovin. lots of love, xxx cindy.

i know better then to be friends with boys with girlfriends

sometimes i feel like i have so much to say that i end up chucking any ideas and not writing about any of it. it's just too much to get down and everything gets all jumbled and lost from my head to the keys. so i'm just going to let it all go and start with what's on my mind, in my heart and in my closet right now. today i headed to the holt renfrew outlet to try and discover some treasures. for those not from canada, holt's is our luxury retailer here. i'm sure i could have found more if i had spent hours there but instead i came home with just one pair of silk panties. not much, but at least they are from my favourite lingerie label/designer first love, stella mccartney. i wish that they had her day of the week undies but this star print is my other fav. style from her collection, so i'm very happy. i tried to re-create the radiator photo with my pair as posing in them for you would make me die of mortification. plus, my guy likes to keep the goods for himself. they are so lovely on though, pretty much a thong shape, super delicate with beautiful lace trim and just the right amount of gathers. i want more. i've also included two tracks for you all to take a listen. meiko and eric hutchinson, two of my favourite tunes right now and i highly recommend you pick them up on itunes.

cassie, you're lovely

a fantastic spread of hannah murray in dirrty glam magazine. sure it's all in french and i can't understand more than a few words but at least you can see the fab pics of this gorgeous girl. hannah plays my favourite character from skins, cassie. she'd the drugged up, anorexic, sweet hearted, free spirit who'd do anything and anyone for her friends. one of my favourite quotes from the show is the one printed below, "i didn't eat for three days so i could be lovely". cassie says that to sid when he cancels their date and it just about breaks your heart. you just want to reach through the screen and give her a hug. love her.

vintage furniture and madewell

i decided to start growing out my bangs and they are finally long enough to start pinning back and wearing all kirsten stewart like. it's weird getting used to seeing my forehead again. what do you think, is it a good idea or should i go back to the old bangs look? as for the clothes i went easy with jeans, worn in boots and a ruffled tank. i got both the cardi and the circle scarf in new york, they're from madewell. one of the few stores that i wish would venture north of the border. i can't wait for vegas so i can check out the store there and hopefully come home with the jeans, cargos and short boots below. oh.. and check out my new teak credenza. i loveeee it.

kaya scodelario is effy

after seeing photos of the lovely willa holland on lefashion i noticed a similarity between her and the gorgeous effy from my current favourite show, skins. played by seventeen year old kaya scodelario, effy is the younger sister of the show's leading man tony stonem. effy capivates the viewers attention in every scene she's in and her beauty and style are so enviable. i had to share these shots with you of kaya done for her models 1 portfolio. check her out in the screen caps from skins below and as the star of season three airing now. pictures from models 1 and google.

peace, love and vintage jeans

an over due outfit post. wearing my vintage wranglers that i had taken in at the thigh to turn into a more flatter flair leg and a scoop neck graphic tee. i need more green footwear. i simply adore these moccasins. below is my personal checklist to the perfect tee.

  • they need some drape, thus i prefer a high quality pima cotton or a blend with either silk, poly or rayon
  • a prefer a lower neck and ideally like a scoop neck
  • sleeves look best close to the arms or rolled up
  • graphic tees should be worn a) tucked into high waisted things to partially obscure the print or b) over sized and loose over a mini or tight fitting bottom
  • i don't like it when they are too sheer, especially in a light colour.
  • wash with care. i have both ruined and improved tees by washing and drying
  • this is also a good reason to buy more then one if you find a shirt that you really love
  • my favourite shirts are vintage soft and pima cotton alternative apparel tees, american apparel tri-blend anything, vintage finds and urban outfitters v-neck graphics.

skins, oh wow

my new obsession is skins. a british teen drama, whose characters are so real, developed, well acted and endearing that i can't stop watching/gushing. over the last week or so i've watched the first two seasons, which feature the original cast. i fell hard for the gang; tony, michelle, syd, maxxie, chris, anwar, jal, effy and especially cassie. so much so that, i'm kind of heartbroken that the current third season only features effy but i definitely plan on getting the dvds so i can watch them over and over again. the series also has amazing music and you can check out a video below of the cast covering one of my favourite songs ever, wild world by cat stevens. i don't want to ruin the series for you by revealing story lines but i urge you all to rent it or watch it, you won't regret it. the show's so smart and candid that i might even like it more then gossip girl.  i know this post isn't fashion related but in the immortal words of chris from bristol, f*@#k it.

is siwy the answer?

i've been feeling a little frustrated with jeans lately. you see, i've been dying for a pair of distressed denim, flares or skinnys. i've looked at tons of different stores and i haven't been able to find the right combination of elements (fit, pocket placement, colour and rip ratio) to satisfy me. i feel like the jeans have to be perfect in all categories or it's just not worth the big bucks for something that's relatively trendy and well to be honest, not going to hold up for long. i mean i could just distress a pair of jeans i already own for free, right? the problem is that they probably won't end up looking as nice as a pair done professionally and i really love the style. i'm into a darkish to very dark denim, either skinny, slouchy skinny or slim through the thigh and very flared. the rips need to be throughout but not overpowering and the pockets need to flatter the bum, not too low. i thought i'd found the answer in current elliot but the pockets and the paint splatters bothered me, too low and too many respectively. i may have found another option though in siwy. i love the hannah in bluestorm and loyal. i can't wait to try these on in person to see if i've finally found the ones. i also love the alice boyfriend jean and all the cute shorts. the siwy campaign is so beautiful and i adore the styling. it helps that the model is gorgeous, i wish i knew who she was. what to you all think? do you have any jean suggestions? all images from siwydenim.com

due for a polish, rescue me?

i've always been intrigued by rescue beauty's nail polishes. the colours are always so interesting and they're usually one of the first to put out new colour trends. i never been able to find the polishes in canada, so if anyone has any suggestions about where to pick them up, please pass them along. these are the colours i'm currently lusting, including the my favourite a pinky/purple grey, aptly named grunge. polishes from left to right; grunge, purple haze, recycle, stormy, pepto pink, no more war.
