on the road - day 15 - joshua tree/palm springs

finally we arrived in california.
driving through the crazy hot and desolate mohave desert, we headed into joshua tree national park.
it was like being on another planet, those crazy trees!
it was also fitting that u2 came on just as we entered the park, since they named one of their records after the place.
after exploring the park, we continued on our journey and spent the night in palm springs.
a gorgeous oasis and a great break from the heat. we spent most of our time at the best western hotel pool (a great place to stay in palm springs if you don't want to break the bank), but we did run to ralph's for some provisions.
wearing: american eagle shorts, forever 21 tank and victoria's secret pink blue jays tee, pendleton bag, minnetonka moccasins and oakley frogsters

on the road - day 14 the grand canyon

nothing beats the grand canyon,
picture perfect moments at ever turn.
it was a gorgeous day, shopping in gallop in the morning, lunch in flagstaff,
an afternoon at the canyon before finishing off with a sunset drive.
wearing an urban outfitters top, vintage levis shorts, minnetonka moccasins, pendleton bag and oakley frogster sunnies.

on the road day 13 - new mexico

the next stop on our trip was albuquerque, new mexico.
i was so excited to see some native american jewelry and take in that real southwest vibe,
but the town wasn't as exciting as i expected. luckily, we did find a gorgeous spot along the rio grande to take these outfit shots.
i'm also obsessed with this mexican grocery store "pro's ranch market" we stumbled upon,
there were streamers and music and tons of amazing looking food that was perfectly merchandised. it was like a freakin' party in there!
driving out of the city we passed some incredible scenery and the town of gallop where i bought a few pieces of zuni and navajo jewelry, including the zuni thunderbird cuff above, which i haven't taken off since = dream piece.
wearing: urban outfitters tee, vintage levis cutoffs from feathers in austin, minnetonka moccasins, pendleton bag, my boyfriend's sun records snapback, oakley frogster sunnies and a tourist shop sombrero.
bracelets: zuni silver cuff, american eagle friendship, diy braid, american eagle neon, carnelian stone from utah, thunderbird beaded cuff from utah.

on the road day 10-12 texas

i left my heart in austin
right before we arrived in austin, out came a rainbow and sunshine to greet us. it was a good omen
because austin turned out to be tied with nashville for my favourite place on the trip so far.
we stayed at the austin motel on south congress.
i loved this place, a real retro/rock and roll feel with an amazing pool.
the only place i'd want to stay if i ever came back to austin!
the shopping on south congress is amazing,
great vintage (esp. feathers where i bought the levis shorts above) and
great contemporary clothing stores (esp. co star where i bought my billabong star sweater)
above: taking some shots in the mirror before heading out to the pool. i love oversized threadbare tees as cover ups, so cozy.
the tiles in our room were so beautiful, i'd love something like that in my house one day.
so many cute houses around south congress, gorgeous plant life too.
there was a mobile pet adoption truck amongst the array of food trucks on the street.
these little guys below were available to take home. so cute!!!!
so much great food in austin. below is an amazing grilled pineapple and avocado quinoa salad from snack bar
and my old school tacos (tomato, avocado, beef and cheddar) from izzoz.
the best non-fish tacos i've ever eaten, maybe the best tacos ever.
dock and roll, home of lobster rolls and sweet potato tater tots and izzoz the taco mecca
after two nights in amazing austin we headed north to lubbock for the night and then westward. some shots from the road, look at the wall of cows!
stay tuned for new mexico....
