on the road - day 25 - i'll see you at the golden gate

i know i said i was let down by my san fran experience, but the golden gate bridge was the exception. so freakin' beautiful, the rusty orange colour, the lines, breathtaking. in total awe of it.

 after we spent some time at the bridge, we drove across it towards lake tahoe. on the way, we had to make one more stop at the last in and out on our trip route for a cheeseburger no onion, i'm not a double double girl. we drove into the sun scorched mountains to our lake tahoe hotel. it was on the nevada side which was just minutes from zephyr cove, so after checking in we headed for the famous beach. it was quite the party spot and the sand was hot! so i wasn't expecting the water to be so cold and deep, but i guess we were really high in the mountains. more on tahoe next post...

on the road - day 23 - the last of the pacific coast highway

day 23 started off with breakfast at deetjens and i didn't want to say goodbye to that perfect place,  but the pacific coast highway was calling... firstly we headed to monterey and carmal by the sea where we drove the 17 mile drive. so many picture perfect stops, gorgeous colours and seals! then a traffic jam and slightly hectic gas run before we made it to the day's final destination, san fransico. to be honest i arrived starving and tired, still having to find a hotel for the night in an unknown/damn expensive city so i was a bit bitchy..;) but after checking in to our hotel and grabbing a bite, a walk down at the wharf brought a smile to my face. damn that foggy view of alcatraz is iconic and stunning.

on the road - day 22part 1 - the p.c.h.

the drive to big sur was too epic not to document thoroughly, so day 22 will be in two parts, the drive and big sur itself. definitely the most beautiful part of the roadtrip 2012, there was a never ending need to photograph ever vista, these were some of my favourite shots. the crazy elephant seals, gorgeous coastline, wild flowers and even a california condor sighting.

on the road - day 19

i put together this special number for dinner on day 19. when i was in new orleans i bought this sheer hawaiian blouse and i'm so in love with it. it works as a top, but it equally great worn open as a jacket and that print is such a summer classic.
but lets not get ahead of myself, here's what happened earlier on the most frustrating day of roadtrip 2012. i was trying to find some wildfox pieces i've been lusting over online, but none of the stores seemed to carry them. in my search i stupidly tried to walk around la, after hours trudging along random roads i ended up empty handed, starving and sweltering. la is not for walking. on the bright side i got to check out the legendary ameoba music and catch up with my bestie paige over dinner at yummy la poubelle. i also bought a gorgeous carnelian crystal charm that i've worn almost everyday since at a magazine shop down the block from the restaurant.

on the road day 18 - huntington beach

on our third day in la we decided to get out of the city and take a little trip south to huntington beach. ever since i was 15, i've been so inspired by surf culture and in awe of the sport, so it was so cool to visit one of the most famous surf spots in California. before hitting the sand we had lunch at bear flag tacos. oh my gosh so tasty - a definite must visit! then we spent the whole day at the beach and on the pier watching the surfers, enjoying the waves and marveling at how tiny the girls wear their bikini bottoms - bums everywhere.

on the road day 16 - california love

first day in la baby.
we got into town on monday afternoon and after a stop in silverlake to drop off our stuff we headed across sunset to west hollywood. we spent the afternoon wandering around the grove, lunching at the farmer's market and shopping along melrose, (where i bought one thing! the shopping in la was a tad disappointing) on the bright side the hike in runyon canyon did not disappoint, so gorgeous up there and what a view! finished the day with in and out, always worth the hype.
