on the road - day 21 - san simmer

the pacific coast highway, wow.
this was a definite roadtrip 2012 highlight. we headed north on saturday morning to san simeon where we'd spend the night before heading on to big sur. ideally i wanted to spend two nights in big sur, but because it was the weekend saturday night was booked everywhere. san simeon is a tiny tiny town about an hour south and it's famous for it's elephant seals and proximity to hearst castle, but it also has a gorgeous wild, coastline. with it being so windy on saturday the whole area reminded me of tofino on vancouver island, stunner.

good ol' rocky top! whoooo! rocky top tennessee.

nashville day 10 - the first full day in the smokies involved lots of rocking on the back porch and relaxing in the hot tub before heading to knoxville for a university of tennessee football game. what an experience! 100,000 people all in volunteer orange, singing along with the marching band playing rocky top and supporting their boys. that night was so cold and the vols weren't exactly doing that great so we decided to leave after the half time show, but what a show it was, flaming batons, marching band reels and a back flipping davy crocket. crazy.

magic moments

it's fitting that my final post of 2011 is a nashville post because the two weeks i spent there were truly the best two weeks of the year.

on day five in tennessee the boy and i took a tour of the ryman auditorium. it's the "church of country music". it's an incredible concert hall with arguably the best acoustics in the world, so much history in those walls. displayed in it's halls are all the hatch show print posters that have been made for recent shows held at the ryman. i wish i could have seen them all, bruce springsteen, van morrison, patty griffin, the list goes on and on...

tonight i'm going to be channelling stevie nicks in a vintage sheer black maxi to celebrate not only the new year, but also my friends, jackie and mike's wedding!
