best friends forever

dixie click for her video            zion national park, utah                                         check out the site
two 4hr+ plane rides, hours and hours of driving, numerous dog walks, 2 national parks and one day in the neon jungle later and i'm home. i had way more fun then i expected, spent way less money then i'd imagined and visited some of the most beautiful country and animals i'd ever seen. the reason behind my trip to utah and vegas was to visit best friends animal sanctuary and volunteer with the animals. the sanctuary is in kanab, southwest utah which is right between bryce canyon and zion national parks. it's an amazing organization and if i could have brought a dog home to canada i would have as they have such lovely animals for adoption. i flew in and out of las vegas and i spent my last day there, relaxing by the mirage pool, it was so hot! i'll post some pictures of the trip once i figure out how to get 800 photos of my camera without crashing my computer, but until then i wanted to urge you all to support best friends or your local humane society in any way you can. i've included a picture and video of my sleepover dog dixie, what a sweetie and i have a donate button on my side bar, every little bit helps! above all i hope that if you're thinking about getting a new pet you consider adopting one from best friends or your local animal rescue, there are so many animals that need a home.

quite possibly my favourite ad campaign of fall 08

i can't wait to go to the old cbgb's in nyc to see the new john varvatos store. seeing these ads makes me want to date a musician, dress in cool clothes and be silly all the time. wait a second, that is my life. i heart daisy lowe, the best bangs.

i'm blushing

the wonderful stephanie at le cheap c'est chic wrote the sweetest post about three of her favourite ashion bloggers and she included me as one of them. needless to say i was very flattered. here is the little blurb she wrote about me and the photo below:

Cindy of truenorthstyle is the vintage and thrift store expert and she is a creative genius at putting together versatile looks that combine great vintage and thrifted finds with of-the-moment pieces. She always looks great and her looks are a constant source of inspiration and inside peek into what the world of 'what goes around, comes around' has to offer.

not only a lovely person and a great fashion blogger in her own right , thanks stephanie.

the cottage part 2

the second week at the cottage continued with much of the same suntanning, relaxing, swimming and activities. we were treated this week by mike who brought over his boat from his cottage on a neighboring lake. i felt like i was on a drug cartel's boat of the coast of south beach zipping around on that thing. the rain came in on the last day up there and you can see the big clouds coming in over the water but for the most part the vacation was sunny and warm. i would definitely come back to stay at this cottage again it was an amazing time.

aa love

the lovely lisa over at american apparel's daily update blog expressed some interest in my diy studded cardigan. she asked me to post an entry about it on their blog. it's so flattering to have people comment on my style and if you want to check out the post head over to the daily update here.

Everyone loves their American Apparel jersey items, the deep v, the pe tank, the cardigan.... I myself have the deep v tee in numerous sizes and colors to go with different kinds of outfits. But how does one get their piece to stand out in a sea of grey tri blend jersey? I did it by studding out my jersey cardigan with simple gold pyramid studs. All you have to do is find some prong backed studs that aren't too heavy. I got mine at a bead/vintage store for 10 cents each. Then just decide on what look your going for and begin sticking in the studs and pressing down the backs. It's that easy. Just make sure that the studs are secure so you can wash your item, inside out of course. Your finished product is a little rock and roll, a little more flashy and sure to make all the hipsters jealous. Check out me in my customized cardigan on my blog true north style here.

met ball magic

i know every site has had their own coverage of the met ball. but, seeing as it is the new york fashion event of the year i thought it would be worth posting some pictures of it here. i was a little disappointed with the lack of superhero outfits. i felt that people weren't embracing the ball's superhero theme and as a girl who obsessed over xmen as a kid i would have gone all out channeling shadowcat or jubilee. i guess people didn't want to come off as costumey, it wasn't halloween after all. my favourite super hero outfit of the night was kate mara and zac posen as superman. i've loved her since i saw shooter, great movie that makes you lust over mark walburg like he's marky mark again, she is so cute. i also thought christina ricci was very wonder womanlike in her red sheer dress, another amazing beauty. there's some pics of the gossip gang, got to love ed/mr.bass;the fab models coco and kate looking flawless;diane and her man josh, he did not look that good on dawson's creek, she is always on point; the olsens looking very powerful, especially ashley; alexander wang; emily mortimer because she's delightful and charmed the hell out of me during a late night interview the other month; and finally lou doillon with short hair! looking uber cool in marni and leather like only she can, those french girls.

queen street's on fire

a break in the regular fashion postings to share some sad news of the queen west fire today. it was heartbreaking to walk down my favourite street and see a whole block devastated by fire. luckily no one was hurt but my heart when out to all the businesses like suspect video and preloved that were virtually destroyed by fire and all the people who lost their apartments. it's so sad to think that i'll never walk down that section of the road and see those historic storefronts again. it really is a piece of toronto that was lost. i went by today around 12pm and again around 4 and the fire crews were still pumping huge amounts of water on the fire that started around 5 in the morning. buildings had collapsed and some were just shells of their former selves. it was all so unbelievable.
