gladiator kate

i was checking out popsugar and spotted kate moss in some fabulous studded gladiators. she's not wearing the steve maddedn etro knock offs so these must be the real deal or is someone else knocking off etro too? either way she looks great and the shoes are my favourite summer shoe buy.

aa love

the lovely lisa over at american apparel's daily update blog expressed some interest in my diy studded cardigan. she asked me to post an entry about it on their blog. it's so flattering to have people comment on my style and if you want to check out the post head over to the daily update here.

Everyone loves their American Apparel jersey items, the deep v, the pe tank, the cardigan.... I myself have the deep v tee in numerous sizes and colors to go with different kinds of outfits. But how does one get their piece to stand out in a sea of grey tri blend jersey? I did it by studding out my jersey cardigan with simple gold pyramid studs. All you have to do is find some prong backed studs that aren't too heavy. I got mine at a bead/vintage store for 10 cents each. Then just decide on what look your going for and begin sticking in the studs and pressing down the backs. It's that easy. Just make sure that the studs are secure so you can wash your item, inside out of course. Your finished product is a little rock and roll, a little more flashy and sure to make all the hipsters jealous. Check out me in my customized cardigan on my blog true north style here.

anja is flawless

this is a model moment. i have to wax poetic about my love for anja rubik. the polish beauty who shot to stardom by chopping of her hair at a chloe shoot. she has such an expressive face and she can project a mood in her photographs that just jumps from the page. anja is a classic beauty but it's her ability to take on a character mixed with her edgy haircut that makes her equally as successful as an editorial model. i love her look, her body is killer and she has obvious charisma. here are some ads, editorials and candid shots of anja.

the thunder rolls and the lightning strikes

another sizzling day comes to an end with fat raindrops and rolling thunder. it was a scorcher today so i went for a breezy dress once again. this is a little calico number with lace cutouts. sometimes you find gems on the urban outfitters sale rack. i never even saw this dress on the shop floor but one day while pursuing the sales section there it was, the only one and in my size. i love the purple and yellow colour way and today i paired it with a floral cardi to make it work appropriate even though i was so hot! i love how the rosebuds on the sweater blended with the dress fabric.  it was almost as if the cardigan was another panel of fabric making up the dress. i normally would have worn this with my suede t-strap flats or my gladiators but i had to work so instead, my heart print keds came out of their winter hibernation. if i had remembered them i might have worn them yesterday too with my polka dot high waisted skirt and new urban yorkie tee but sometimes i forget what i have when things get tucked away. i wish i took photos of yesterday's look but i was a little late starting my day and i was too hot and sticky to care when i got home. i'm sure i'll wear it again if i can get the red wine stain out of my top.  one thing working at an italian restaurant has taught me is how to get wine and olive oil out of anything.

hot hot heat

it's been disgustingly hot here the last few days, almost 40 degrees with humidity and all i want to do is wear as little clothing as possible. this dress is great for that because it has a built in shelf bra and if super light and airy. i love the ombre effect and tried to tame the floatiness with a belt because it was very windy. kevin doesn't appreciate me giving everyone a show. i spent the day having a bbq on chris's rooftop and watching the jays game while drinking ceasers with my sister. it was a great way to beat the heat.

barracuda

i love this top. it's comfortable and goes with everything but at the same time it can be very sexy becasuse of how bare it is. it all depends on what you wear with it and underneath it. i've worn it on here before in other colours because i have it in green and in coral. i'm wearing it with my favourite 18th amendment jeans, i still need those lollabridges, and my new shades. i've thrown in a pic of me and kevin after another barracuda victory on wednesday it's too bad you can't really see our uniforms, there's matching knee socks.

do you know how fast your were going?

i got some new sunglasses the other day. it's not often that i find aviators that flatter me and being that they're such a classic shape i had to get these even though i have eight other pairs of shades. these are big enough for my face and yet still super light and comfortable. they are by linda farrow vintage and i got a crazy discount on them at holts last call.

when i'm good i'm good when i'm bad i'm better

the other day i went to aritzia with my sister and almost broke the bank. aritzia is the kind of store that i either want nothing or everthing in. right now they are doing some great stuff and i bought two sweaters, a bandeau, tube top and a high waisted skirt. what i love about this sweater is you can wear it two ways. normally it is longish and slim cut or upside down so it is shorter and has more volume. you can even wear the extra fabric up like a hood. plus, it has studs, so cute, on the seams. this outfit is pretty simple but it includes something from all my favourite stores, urban outfitters, h&m, aritzia and some vintage.

petal power

i love all of the fashion forward floral items h&m has been producing for their trend line lately. i've tried on a couple of different shapes and patterns and most of the items fall into that category of clothing that's a longish shirt or a short short dress. this piece was an exception. it is long enough to wear confidently as a dress but because of the tighter hem it can be folded under and worn with skinny pants or leggings. it may not be the most fashion forward piece i tried but it still had an interesting shape, fun ruffles, pockets! and a black contrasting bodice. plus, it can be worn both belted to define the waist and loose and blouson. a bonus is that it looks great with my blue platforms, i love these shoes so much, and my yellow pedicure.

acid trip

these are the acid wash jeans i got at urban on saturday. i've been thinking about buying acid wash denim for some time but i didn't want to spend a lot of money on something that was so trendy.  agathe on style bytes had a great cheap monday pair but they never have them in my size so when i saw these i had to pick them up. i paired them with a loose striped top. isn't it funny how things instantly looked better with the sleeves rolled up?  i didn't know whether it was better tucked in or out so i wore it both ways.  topped of the look with my trusty army coat. the last pic reminds me so much of nyc. i think i had the same outfit on when i went to brooklyn.

floral ruffles and rainy puddles

saturday night ended with thunder storms and chick flicks but it started out as a hot and steamy day. i was able to wear my recently cropped cut offs and a newly recieved tank. if you haven't noticed i've been doing a bit of shopping lately. my credit card statement can attest to it. but, as of payday all will be back in the black so i don't have too much buyers remorse. i spent the day returning an item and shopping at the new urban outfitters on queen. i found some great acid wash skinnys. they are guys so they're a bit big in the waist but still look great on and i also got an ombre dyed dress that will be great for hanging out buy the water. after shopping i met up with kevin for sushi and we ended the afternoon reading our books and relaxing to the sounds of rainstorms. this top is fantastic, so pretty and comfortable. i first wanted after my friend sonia got it when we were in new york. i didn't want to copy her so i never purchased it but when i got an email about the urban outfitters memorial day sale and saw it was only 19.99$ i couldn't resist.

every rose has it's thorn

on a rainy friday i decided to check out some thrift stores to spend some time before work. I found three cute things at value village; a new desk chair to replace the one that's currently spilling it's guts; a striped top in the same style as the now classic aa long sleeve jersey tee and a pair of high waisted denim guess shorts. then i headed to vintage 69's new by the pound and got a pound worth of vintage sleepwear, all chiffon and satin.  i wore some new items on friday as well, a rose detailed belt and a jersey deep "v" in aa's new navy colour way.  my yellow shoes are one of my favourites. i got them two years ago on ebay and they are my first and only topshop item. i had to change into my moccasins for work though because we 're not allowed to wear peep toes.

blue suede shoes

today i put together a light summery look. i wanted to wear my newly studded cardi so i decieded on a gauzy tank, that way i wouldn't be too hot at work. this is a great vintage top i got for 10 or 20 dollers. i also wore my other new sandals. these were a lot less comfortabe then the ones i wore yesterday but i love the colbolt colour. perfect outfit for walking around queen, heading to work and drinks at beacs.

i love urban outfitters

today was the grand opening of the new urban on queen west. i had to go and funny enough i ran into my friend jenny and she said she thought she'd see me there, after all it is my favourite store. the place looked great, a lot like the ones in new york. it was busy though and kevin came along so i didn't really look at everything in detail. i will head over there next week to have a more thorugh look around. that said i did buy a few things. i found a great lace body suit similar to the hanky panky one i posted after my desperatley seeking susan write up. i also got 2 more la flair polishes. a rad hot pink my friend jackie was sporting the other day and a light yellow that i'm wearing on my toes in the next post pictures. finally, i got this cute navy belt which is perfect to wear with dresses and high waisted skirts. i love the floral detail. going to urban always makes me a little sad though because i want to work in their merchandising department so badly, hire me! i'd be a perfect match just look at my devotion on my blog. hopefully, it will happen one day. oh, aren't the cn tower totes so cute?

what a stud

i mentioned studding my aa jersey cardi last night. well here is the final result. i think it looks so good. it's not as cool as the vena cava sweater i love but it's way more affordable. i went back to the market to get more studs today and i even found some shaped like acorns. i just have to figure out what to stud next. i really could get carried away with this. side note* the new urban outfitters opens on queen tomorow. yes, it is such a shorter walk for me now. i can't wait to go tomorrow.

one of the boys

i felt like being comfy today so i decided to channel my skater days of youth and wear my vintage baggy levis. i love the heart shaped patch on them but they are so long in the crotch you have to wear a long top to balance it out. i love wearing oversized things it's like your boyfriend's clothes. in fact whenever my guy gets his clothes together to give away i always look through them for stuff i may like. i wear his old tees to bed and to workout in. i also found the rest of my fabric bracelets i made last time i was in portugal. my aunt that's currently visiting is the one with the sewing business whose scrapes i used to make the bracelets. i spent the day hanging out in the market. i checked out some vintage shops and saw some teak furniture to die for. i also had a nice mexican lunch and a margherita on a patio. it's nice to just go to a restaurant with a book and have a drink and a nice meal by yourself sometimes. i'm currentley reading strawberry shortcake murder. i know it sounds cheesy but i love culinary mysteries. you get to try and figure out who dun it and get great recipes. this series is all about a girl with a cookie shop so all the recipes are for baked goods which is ideal for me because i prefer baking to cooking. tonight we racked up another "w" in baseball and i even tried to catch a ball. i ended up stopping it with my shin and will probably have a bruise but we won so it was worth it. go cudas. p.s. i wore my new studded gladiators today and they were super comfortable. i'd totally recommend them even though one of the jewels is coming off already.

courage my love

today i spent the day with my mom, my aunt and my sister. we had a yummy lunch at mitzi's as usual and then we checked out some shops. i got a dress at h&m and a few items at aritzia. i'm still not 100 percent sure i'm keeping it all but we'll see after i try things with what i have at home. i think tomorrow i'm going to go to courage my love and get some more studs. it's a great vintage store in the market that also sells beads and buttons. tonight i customized my aa jersey cardi with some gold studs and it looks so good i might have to bedazzle a couple more items. plus, the market means yummy cheese and fresh produce. we also have baseball tomorrow and i'm looking forward to what looks to be our first sunny game.
