today has been very frustrating. i've been trying to find a spring jacket that's a little rock and roll and is preferably leather. everything i like is either not in my size or too expensive. now i know i bought that zara one a few weeks ago but it just wasn't working out. it was exactly what i was looking for but i just didn't seem to like the way it was fitting on me. i think it was too big and i didn't help that i see girls wearing it all the time. so today a went around looking for a replacement and i found an amazing development jacket at winners. unfortunately it was cream coloured and it seemed as though it had been worn as it was very dirty. i thought about getting it and then having it dyed black but i was afraid it wouldn't work out and it was 300.00$. that's a big risk to take. so i guess i'll have to keep looking. the good thing about checking out jackets was i got to stop by the cupcake shop at yonge and eg. mmm, they're so good there, much better then magnolia. this is an outfit from the other day. i wore it on another very uneventful and frustrating shopping day. i did get this alternative apparel tank but otherwise lately i haven't had any good finds.

magazines and measles
today i spent the day reading the new magazines that came out and eating yummy cheese and cucumber sandwiches. thursdays are my favourite day of the week because it's magazine day. and even though i usually work thursday nights i always try to hit the newsstand for my weekly fix before i go in. today it was teen vogue and elle. i've been trying to find the new french vogue because there's a great kate moss spread in it but so far no luck. i've also been dealing with some very irritated cheeks. i don't know if it's from petting the cat i'm allergic to and touching my face or being outside but my cheeks are red and very hot. there's been talk of the measles going around toronto and i know i don't have them because i'd be a lot sicker and i've been immunized but kevin's been calling me measley even since my cheeks got red.sweater: thrifted

mission accomplished
i found my jacket! yesterday after trying on about a dozen over sized army jackets i ended up buying this one for 15$. it was actually the first one i found but i wanted one with patches so i left it at the store and kept looking around. luckily, it was still there when i came back because it was the only one that fit properly. i found a store that sold the army patches so i got some and sewed them on myself. i just have to hem the shirt because it was a little long and it will be good to go.

my brief for today
what i want to find today at kensington market. hopefully i'm successful it is the place to find surplus.
jodie and nick at the shark pool
so today is suppose to be 18 degrees so i decided to wear a dress with no tights for the first time this year. the reality is that it may be 18 degrees but there's a super cold wind today so it feels more like 5c. i had to go home and grab my army coat. i am going to head back out and go to kensignton to buy cheese and perhaps go by tcb to check out tattoo prices. i won't say exactly what and where i want to get because my mom might read this but it doesn't hurt to do reseach. today i'm wearing my 90's floral dress. everyone had these growing up, they lace up the back and are made out of rayon. they are really appealing to me right now i think they're perfect with the floral trend for spring. plus, i feel like i'm on heartbreak high.
my finds
my value village finds from yesterday. the sweater isn't in the picture because i got cold and was wearing it all night. the sweater is banana republic, everything else doesn't have a label. my favourite thing is the leather bag. even though i have a lot of cute small purses i had to get this one because the strap is so long. even when i wear it across my body it hangs past my hip.

sunny days and bbq
today was a beautiful spring day so i decided to walk to the thrift store and brose around. i ended up finding a nice black oversized cashmere blend sweater, two cute bags and a studded cuff. it was so warm that on my way home i had to ditch my vintage leather jacket and was wearing just my cardi and tank. later kev, mark and i had the first bbq of the year. we made pork chops, mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and corn, yum.

bargain hunting
yesterday i decided to check out last call to see if i could score some bargains. it's the holt's outlet which is the big luxury department store in canada. i found two great pieces and although they weren't exactly cheep they were considerably marked down. i got a phillip lim tee that i wanted forever. it's grey with black lace stripes across it and i got a army green military style jacket by marc by marc. i'll wear them soon so you can see them. until then here's my shopping outfit, court forces and layers.

grand slam
on sunday we got summer started by checking out the blue jays opening weekend. the boys in blue swept the red sox and thanks to a grand slam by the big hurt frank t. we won 7-4. here is a pic from the game. after the win i had to go to work but a kept the spirit alive by wearing my blue t-shirt dress. once work was over all us employees headed out to celebrate taj's birthday. it was a really fun night at kitchen.

maple syrup and chicken
i went to brunch at the swan on saturday before work and ate some delicious french toast. i wanted to get out and enjoy the sunshine and the first days of spring. so, i hung out with kev and mark in my pea coat and talked chicken. plus, it was finally warm enough to break out the moccasins. that's always a sign of warmer days. i wore one of my recent thrift finds, this striped cardi, now that i finally did my laundry and after a long night at work i hit the sheets with rascal. today was awesome too. i watched the jays defeat the red sox with an amazing grand slam from the big hurt at rogers center, i worked and i hit 3$ drinks at the bar for taj's bday. but more about that with tomorrow's post of today's outfit.

birthdays and nan bread
on friday i finally tackled that mountain of laundry but the day wasn't all work and no play. in the evening i went for dinner for steven's birthday. a bunch of us went to this amazing indian restaurant called indojunction. i haven't every been a fan of indian food, except for nan but who doesn't like bread. this though was good indian food and i ate too much over a couple glasses of prosecco. after some dessart and coffee and too much information about ian and his mom i headed home for a rest. i wore my new vintage zip up boots and ag jeans combo again but this time with my new sweater and a corset-like tulle top.

cats in the woods
yesterday i spent the night eating pad thai and spring rolls while watching the girls on top model catfight their way to the top with my hobo cat rascal. i also managed to avoid doing laundry for another night so my hamper is at dangerous levels. it could topple over at any moment burying me, imagine suffocation by my clothes. i will get it done soon, hopefully, but in attempt to avoid it until tomorrow here's yesterday's outfit. i'd show today's too but i'm still in my pj's. i tried out heidi braids yesterday as so many sites have been showing how easy they are to do, fashionista, whowhatwear. i think they looked really sweet. i also wore my new sweater and my forest print twentyeighttwelve tee. i love sienna, everything about her so naturally i've been intrigued by her and her sister's collection. i love the deer, bird and forest drawings on it. it really goes with my aesthetic.
what's in your shopping bag?
here's a pic of some recent purchases. i went thrifting yesterday and i found this beautiful giorgio saint angelo skirt. he's a famous 1970's designer and the skirt is high waisted with pockets. the purple paisley print will be perfect for fall and all i have to do is mini it so i look like a 20 something instead of a grandma, albeit a chic grandma. i also picked up these cute denim shorts. it's hard to find ones that are flattering on me so when i find them i snatch them up. the other day i bought this cute fringed pouch at h&m. it's perfect to hold make-up, an ipod or even squish in sunglasses but i'm going to use it as a camera case. finally, this is the leather biker jacket i got at zara. it's a popular choice but there's good reason, it fits perfect, it's soft leather and it's so hard to find all these things in vintage jackets. it's exactly what i've been looking for for months and i just don't think the vintage version exists at a price range i'm willing to pay. yesterday, i also got a new tinted moisturizer at sephora. it's by the balm and i love it. the balm also makes my favourite concealer and great stick free lip gloss. i picked up a new bottle of dry shampoo as well. this time i got a powder instead of the spray i already have and i'm going to see which i prefer. dry shampoo has become an essential of mine. i think if you have long hair you don't want to dry it out by washing it everyday but the dry shampoo keeps your roots from being greasy and freshens your hair. it creates lift and texture and it's how kirsten dunst got that bouffant in marie antoinette. it's been one of the secrets of french girl chic for hundreds of years.

is that a robber in that mask?
today i tried to wake up early to get some errands done but of course i stayed up too late last night dancing in my living room drinking vodka five alives. i only had one really, but it was a double i am a bit of a light weight and drinking it kept me up until 4am. so, joining the gym and taking stuff to the tailors went on the list for another day but i did manage to return a coat i got yesterday at aritzia. i also bought a amazing leather biker jacket from zara and hit sephora hard. i liked the artizia coat a lot but because i am attempting to curb my spending and keep my wardrobes from collapsing under the weight of all my clothes i had to return one of the jackets i got. in fact, i went through all my clothes yesterday and ended up with a suitcase full of stuff i need to get rid of. i just don't know if i want to donate it or try and sell it on ebay. i'm just not sure how hard it is to sell things on ebay, i know it's easy to buy stuff ;) yesterday i also fell in love with a wallet and a bag at holt's. the wallet's a pink balenciaga and i want it so bad. unfortunately, it's over 400$ dollars so i don't think i'll be getting it but maybe it will go on sale. the bag is a gryson but i did just get a nice purse in nyc so i don't think i'll be buying it either. i did get some good news at telus though. i found out the phone i've been lusting after, the lg ev, will most likely be in canada in a month or two. now i will finally be able to text like b. i'll post today's outfit soon but here's one from the other day. ahh, you can't tell in the picture but the raccoon on my shirt has a mohawk, so cute. when i started dating my boyfriend he had a mohawk. in fact that's the main reason he caught my eye, i have a little thing for them.

ruby slippers
this is the outfit i wore to the fundraiser i wrote about the other day. it was a party to raise money for journalists for human rights and were i sold raffle tickets to win a vespa. us girls decided to go with matching vespa shirts and high waist mini's to brand ourselves as raffle sellers. it turned out really cute and we raised lots of money. these shoes are my new red flats from h&m and if you like them too you should head over there because they are currently on sale. i'm also wearing a new obsession, sheer patterned tights. i got these polka dot ones in nyc but my dream is to find heart print ones like i used to wear when i was a kid. well, i need to finish watch the last two episodes of csi miami season one so i can return this very overdue dvd so one more post for today. i swore i would only get hooked on csi vegas but miami has succeeded in winning me over too.
leather, fur and rock and roll
my fella was playing a show the other night and my friend chris and his band were opening up for him so i got all dolled up for the night. the show was amazing as usual and it was taped for cbc radio so i'll be sure to let you all know when you can tune in to here it. my outfit centered around one of my favourite value village finds, my fur collared motorcycle jacket. i'm a huge animal lover but i eat meat, wear leather and i'm not completely against wearing fur. i think that as long as it's vintage, furs are fine. i believe that instead of killing more animals you can find amazing vintage pieces or even rework old coats into something modern. there's no need to buy new fur. that said, this coat is vintage leather with a self belt, lots of zips and a coyote collar best of all it was only 24.99$, amazing. i don't wear it too much as it's a lot of drama but it's great for a night out. i wore it with two new york purchases, my ag jeans and my fav. new boots. these are the vintage ones that zip all the way up the back, so hot. after the show i had the hugest craving for potato chips that i had to hit up the grocery store in my hot outfit for a bag or two.coat: vintage, thrifted
sailormoon
i love sailormoon. it was my favourite show when i was in 8th grade and i had a sailormoon backpack and watch. i just loved how cute the girls looked in their outfits. anime is so visually interesting and i always wanted blue hair like bulma in dragonball. but enough about my geeky past lets get on with the outfit. all sailor stripes and navy blue. i wore this the other day to meet up with jenny, alex and sophia to get our outfits for a fundraiser we were selling raffle tickets at. after picking up our vespa tees we headed out for dinner at sushi island. yum, i just love their food especially their green dragon roll. it's the best sushi in the city.

my new boots are like butter
looking at this oufit now it seems sort of autumnal with the brown and green tones but i just love that colour palette. i'm wearing a green tank that was originally white before i dyed it. i found it too sheer and this green colour makes it a lot more wearable. it ended up with a tied dyed effect as the dye didn't absorb evenly but luckily it looks intentional. i'm also wearing my new boots that i got at eleven in nyc. i love the laces and how soft the leather is. i still can't believe how many amazing vintage boots there were in new york, in my size and in such good condition. it was hard to just get three pairs i could have got 10. of course i don't know how i would have explained that at the border if they would have checked my bags. i've also been really attracted to the look of a looser longer shirt under a fitted shorter top. i think the layering effect is more exaggerated and it gives the outfit more character. sweater: urban outfitters

nyc recap day 5
on our last full day in nyc we started the morning off with breakfast at clinton street bakery in the lower east side. i had amazing fluffy blueberry pancakes with maple butter sauce. it was delicious and i loved the atmosphere of the place. after brunch we took the train over the bridge to willaimsburg. i fell in love with beacon's closet and i would have gladly spent all afternoon there but i didn't want to make everyone wait around for me. i got some vintage booties and a pair of new sunglasses and polka dot sheer tights. in the afternoon we headed back to soho to do some returns and last minute shopping at sephora and ag where i bought some sexy dark blue skinny jeans. i was having some last minute guilt for not doing much cultural touristy stuff while on my trip so after an early dinner at north america's first pizzeria lombardi's i headed over to the moma for their target free fridays. after soaking in the picassos, monets and warhols i finished the night off with a beer at cb's and a tasti-d-lite, how mary kate of me. i loved nyc so much and i can't wait to go back.coat and hat: h&m
