purple pancake eater

when i was suppose to be christmas shopping the other day i found these great jeans. i've been trying to get coloured jeans for a while but i didn't want to spend a lot of money. i figured the look was pretty trendy so i didn't want to make a big investment. all the cheaper ones i found didn't fit right on me and i put off the idea of ever getting a pair. then i walked into this store jacflash and there on their 50% off rack was a single pair of purple jeans, in my size! it was a sign that they had to be mine. after much debate on whether to get them or a 30% burgundy pair that was a little more subtle. i decided to go with my gut and get the bright purple. now i have a great quality, great fitting pair of coloured jeans for a great price, i love when that happens. i wore this outfit to breakfast, my favourite meal to go out for. there's nothing i like more then a mitzi's pancake or french toast in the early afternoon.

afternoon delight

the light around 3pm is so pretty right now. it bounces of the snow outside and brightly bursts through the windows. it makes you think just for a second you could wear an outfit like this outside without a parka. this top is actually a diy. i saw this cool beaded shirt at french connection and thought i could make that. so i got this less expensive tunic version and sewed on the black beads at the collar. it was easy and the beads were under 5$ so i made the top for 20$ less then the original. this top can also be worn on it's own with tights as a dress so it's even more versatile. with it i'm wearing one of my favourite pairs of jeans that i've had for 3 years. i have a lot of jeans so i rotate them and i can have a pair forever and they still look brand new. i'd wear these more if i got them hemmed but i still haven't got around to it, if only i was 5f8". these moccasins are really slippers and i don't wear them too much outside the house but they looked cute with the outfit so i left them on for this shot.

i love u elephants (tons)

a simple work look with my trusty white adidas. i'm wearing three of my favourite silver pieces. my hoops from gypsy, my vintage elephant charm and my new fake heart ring. i love how big each piece is, they make a strong statement. the elephant is so heavy that it would break through the fabric chains i had it on until i made this metal one. the first time i wore it to work i lost it and thought it was gone forever luckily i found it under a cabinet at the end of my shift. i bought it at the christie antique show. every summer there are monthly antique shows around ontario and my mom and i go to a couple each season. christie is the largest to we usually hit it at least once. my favourite things are the clothes and jewelry and even though there aren't too many stalls that sell those things at the show you can usually find a few things. either way it's a nice way to spend the day and i get to hang out with my mom. my purple nails are so cute, bright colours can be an accessory unto itself. by the way, the i love u elephants term is one i use with my fella, instead of saying i love you tons because elephants weigh tons.

black velvet

sometimes i buy stuff on sale without trying things on because i think it might be a good buy. this tunic was one of those purchases. it was from the urban outfitters sales rack and because they have such a great return policy i snagged the last one. luckily it looks cute and i don't have to bring it back. actually this outfit is a bunch of good buys, my velvet vest was 6$ at value village. i love vv. the tunic looks great with leggings as it's long enough to cover anything you may want to disguise. i think the legging as pants look is really hard to pull off. it can look good if your thin and if the leggings don't give you camel toe but after a night at the mall xmas shopping i've seen they've become a uniform for young girls of all sizes. they all wear them with their uggs which is fine but on some of the girls it's so unflattering. i mean i rarely wear them without a long top and there were girls today that were bigger then me rocking them, even gold metallic pairs. hey, if your comfortable i guess wear whatever but if you just added a slightly longer shirt you would look so much better. it's just an idea.

denim roses and silver hearts

for a day of vintage shopping i decided on this layered look. i wanted to wear one of my fav. summer dresses. it's a rose patterned denim bustier with a cotton skirt. i usually wear it to go out because it has a sexy cut but with the gray tee underneath it makes it more day and less summery. the navy colour of it gave me the chance to test out my new knit tights. i love the polka dots. they day was a success as i ended up buying a great suede motorcycle jacket and black check scarf at cute vintage shop on ossignton, but the day was not without loss too. in an attempt to blast some timberland on my ipod my cashmere glove got lost somewhere on queen st. it kept me warm since high school but no more. my cold fingers miss you buddy. i'm also wearing my marc watch necklace here, it was a birthday present. i have yet to find a wrist watch i like in my price range so i only wear time pieces around my neck. ironically, when i wear it i still always check my cell phone when i want to know the time.

she wore a raspberry beret

mice are annoyingly smart. they run right by the traps you put out for them and continue to run around your kitchen like they own the place. they must not like peanut butter much. i'm looking forward to getting past work tomorrow and enjoying my three days off. i'm getting my christmas tree and hopefully put a dent in my gift shopping, i am so behind.

blair and serena paper dolls

i've been noticing these cute clothing collages on various fashion blog sites and they lead me to this site polyvore.com. it's a site were you can upload or use their images to put together fashion ideas or inspiration boards and then post them online. on the site itself people can comment and rate your collages. now, i don't really know how to use it but i was messing around and i created these two looks for my fav gossip girls to wear for the holidays. i went with a common metallic theme but taylored it to they're different styles. the pink and gold outfit is for blair as it's more girly and lux. while the denim look is for bohemian serena. though i like both looks, personally i prefer the serena look. check out the site it's fun.

wild horses and work socks

a cozy winter outfit that's a little grunge inspired. everyone's saying the 90's are back and channeling kurt and courtney is easy without looking like you're stuck in the past. i think the key to following any trend, as most people will tell you, is to not do it head to toe. if you do too much it can look like a costume or as if you haven't shopped in 10 years. here my grunge elements are the flannel like material and baby doll cut of my dress and the work socks peeping out of the top of my boots. if i had added a flannel shirt or docs with this it would have been over the top. i love work socks they always remind me of my dad because he's a construction worker and he wears them pretty much everyday. i really like this horse necklace. it's made from a figure that is used to build models. this girl was selling them at the clothing show in toronto. she makes them herself and she had all different kinds of figures and animals. if anyone's interested in getting one like it she'll probably be at the next clothing show next weekend and this design was around 30$. my scarf is channeling those fab louis vuitton leopard ones that sienna and kate have been wearing the last couple of months. the real deal would make a great xmas present if anyone wants to get one for me.

jagger bombs away

so here's a first look at some going out wear. originally i wanted to wear this striped sequin dress i bought at h&m but after much deliberation i realized it was just not right on me. for some reason it looked really boxy so i returned it and settled for this equally sparkly vest. the vest is one of those things you buy during sales that is super cheap but something you'd actually buy at regular price. it's always nice finding those. i don't wear this too much in fact it's been over a year since i wore it last but i'll never get rid of it because it instantly dresses up leggings and a tee like it did below. i'm wearing my chanel inspired mini bag too and since i don't have sleazy reality star boyfriend to buy me the real deal (like l.c. or heidi). i'm on a total blair waldorf gossip girl bow headband kick, especially because my new bangs really suit headband wearing. i don't want to get to much into gossip girl because i love it and the styling on it so much that it really warrants it's own post. i must say that the outfit blair had on during the nate suit alteration scene last week killed me with jealousy. i want it. oh, luckly i didn't wear the rejected dress too because it was a blizzard outside and i had to wait forever to get a cab to get to the soc.. consider this a prelude for the many holiday parties ahead, bottoms up.

foxy lady

i really liked this outfit because it's cute but it's also really comfortable. i'm wearing one of my favourite h&m finds a fox print mint green tank. my new tri blend heather gray cardi, and my knee high flat green suede boots. the top reminds me of this blue cat print material my mom bought me as a child so she could make me an outfit. the outfit never happened but i always loved the print, infact she probably still has the fabric stored somewhere. thus, when i saw this tank, which has great black ribbon racerback, i had to have it. tri-blend jersey is my favourite. it's so soft and like a vintage shirt without the musty smell and moth holes. i think i have almost every style top american apparel makes in it. if you look behind me in the second picture you can see it was laundry day at my house and all my hang to dry clothes are on the line. laundry is my favourite chore and i've done my own since i was young to make sure my clothes stayed in good condition. plus, i love the feeling of all my clothes being clean and put away, knowing i could wear anything i want at that moment.

coloured nails in your coffin

i'm a big fan of painted nails, toes and fingers, but ever since the calamari plate incident of april 2007 my toes haven't exactly been cute enough to draw attention to. the aforementioned plate separated my toe from my toenail and it's only half grown back, ewe. enough gross stuff, it just means i'm paying more attention to my fingernails by painting them bright fun colours. blues, purples, oranges, even black i have every colour except green. as i sit here writing this watching old episodes of buffy on dvd my nails are a nyc dusty purple with a mirror finish topcoat. my favourite polishes are by rimmel and flare and i love the sally hansen complete care treatment and their mega shine topcoat. i wear the torrid dark purple rimmel polish the most and rimmel shocker matches the star tattoo on my foot.

on a side note, sarah michelle geller was so cute on buffy. great clothes. it's amazes me when you watch tv shows that were aired a few years ago how much fashion has changed. for instance buffy in this episode is wearing a below the knee high waisted skirt with side slits. now that sounds kind of horrid but i had one just like it when i was in high school.

said the owl, nevermind

channeling a little cobain here with my buffalo check hoodie and sneeks. this outfit is effortless, comfortable and filled with elements that love. obviously the plaid plus the owl print and the pinecone charm on my bracelet representing that forest imagery again. the gold bracelet from my childhood and the vintage locket shows my love for things with history as well as my devotion to vintage shopping. i think vintage shopping, like thrifting, is a modern day treasure hunt. only there can you find amazing workmanship and unique pieces without breaking the bank. luckly toronto and the surrounding area has great vintage stops and if you get bored of those there's always ebay. even though it takes a lot of time to find those great pieces to me that's part of the allure. you take pride in the things you work for.

winter wonderland

last night it snow stormed for the first time this winter. the whole city was blanketed in white fluff. it was so pretty and makes me feel alive and connected with things. big snowfalls are one of my favourite things along with the things listed below.

this is my baby guitar. she's an acoustic cherry red beaver creek travel guitar with an electric pic up. i named her cinnamon. she was my birthday present this year. i've been trying to learn to play but i haven't quite mastered it yet. soon i hope to be playing along to all my fav. songs i'm sure.

these next two pics are of my tear frames. these are in my living room and i frame up cool pictures that i come across from magazines. they're easy to change out whenever i get bored or get inspired by something. right now i have a four set on sienna miller from an amazing esquire magazine photoshoot and some retro bruce springsteen photos. they are two of my favourtie and inspiring people, plus these images are so engaging.

these images are focused around some ethereal pics of kate moss. my favourite is the star image on the bottom center because she's smiling and that one and the one above it look so in the moment and not forced.

this is my first designer bag. it's a marc by marc jacobs bag that i got for my birthday last year. i wanted a marc bag for so long as i love their quality, whimsical details and how they aren't crazy expensive. i looked at so many different styles before i settled on this one. it's the perfect day bag. it's big enough to hold everything and a magazine plus it has lots of compartments so you can always find what you're looking for.

i love the hardware and the graffiti print lining. i chose black because it's a great neutral but you can easily punch it up with a scarf or charm if you wanted to give it more personality. i think if i had a couple nice bags i might have picked to blue version of this bag but for my first big purchase i had to go for practicality. i'm hoping to get another marc bag in the next few months either for christmas or when i go to new york to add to my budding bag collection that includes this marc and my mulberry brooke. ideally i'd like to collect a miu miu, a balenciaga, a chanel and a luella as well, but i've got to start making the big bucks first.

finally these are my new nike court force kicks. i first saw these at an urban outfitters in buffalo. i wanted them so badly but they only had big men's sizes. i looked online for them and still could not find a pair in my size as they were sold out everywhere. i loved the flannel buffalo plaid on the back of them and just had to have them luckily i finally found my size at dazone. these are my first nike's since 8th grade and totally go against my strict only white converse high tops and white adidas with black stripe shell toe running shoe rules but they're worth it.

gimmie my mtv

this was a really special day as it was the day my guy was on mtv. i wanted to dress up a bit for the show so i wore my new flippy skirt. i fell in love with it as soon as i saw it at h&m. it reminded me so much of kate moss for some reason and those amazing crepe ossie clark designs i adore. the skirt is high waisted and has little black flowers on a navy backgrond, plus it has pockets so cute. it's also super versitile as if you were a top tucked into the skirt it looks more modest and fashion foward and if you wear a top tuck out it looks sexier and seems shorter. after my luv's steller performance at the masonic temple we headed over to my work for a celebratory dinner. overall a great night and an adorable outfit.

from all the boys the one i take home is music

this is a fashion blog but sometimes things inspire me that aren't fashion related. so i am going to write about them anyway because really who's going to stop me. there are some cds that have not left my car player or my ipod in months. i strongly believe that the music industry is destructing and if we want labels to keep signing and support unique artists like the ones below we have to start buying music again. hopefully these glowing reviews will urge some of you to pick up these tunes and not just download them for free.
i'm really loving paolo nutini. he's a young scot who writes these great songs about growing up and relationships. he has an amazing scratchy voice. i can't get enough of him. i love the first 6 songs on his first cd "these streets" especially last request and jenny don't be hasty.
next i'm loving roz bell and his debut cd "the first sunbeams". this guy blends pop, rap and rock with a retro sound. if you liked maroon five's first album you'll love this. plus, he is a toronto boy and you should alway support your own. i love his songs cali cry, papercut, i used to love her, yesterday man and jesus janey.
there's also the amazing vocal styling of one miss alice smith. i saw her open up for citizan cope around this time last year and i was blown away. i went from having no idea who she was to marching over and buying her cd after her set. i'd say she's a less gimmicky amy winehouse without all the drama. on her debut "for lovers, dreamers and me" check out woodstock, gary song, fake is the new real and dream.
when i want to rock out a bit more i love popping on the fratellis "costello music". another amazing act from the uk these boys make fast fun rock songs about girls and trouble. i wish i could have seen these guys live but their show sold out so fast. you got to listen to henrietta, flathead, chelsea dagger and for the girl.
finally, i must boast about a miss kate nash. i'd compare her to lily allen but with a dirtier mouth. she writes the cutest songs about awful relationships but it makes sense really as she started writing after her boyfriend dumped her and she broke her leg falling down the stairs, not the best situation. i love foundations, nicest thing, we get on, shit song and birds.
